Since the tab bar is only useful if more than one tab is open, an option should be added to keep the tab bar hidden unless there is more than one tab open.

Absolutely agree. Personally I don't use tabs or do that rarely and tab bar just takes up space on screen.

Maybe we can make it the default, with a small button somewhere to add new tabs
